Kingfisher airlines launched it’s airlines with a punch line “Every class Is a kingfisher class”. And yes it’s really a once in a life time experience of flying in kingfisher airlines as narrated by Jammy.
But I (or should I say my sister) had a really tough time with the airlines. First of all some background to fill you in.
My sis got married last year and had moved from Ahmadabad to Hyderabad in October last year and once again from Hyderabad to Pune this year. Having been away from family for a long time (actually only 3 months as she was here this diwali), both, she and her husband decided to drop in during Uttarayan (It’d also be my guess that some of the other reasons could be that Jiju’s (My Sister’s husband) elder brother’s birthday was on 15th Jan and that Jiju had been away during Christmas in USA and they planned a family get together in January instead.
Equipped some hefty dollars earned in USA, my Jiju wanted the Kingfisher experience and booked his tickets on the 6th of Jan from Bombay to Ahmadabad. Naturally after reading Jammy’s blog entry, I decided to pick them up at the airport (Maybe I would see some of those pretty airhostesses he mentioned).
Their flight was scheduled to take off at 7AM from Bombay. Since my sis lives in Pune, they had to wake up at 5AM to catch an auto at that odd hour and drive them to the nearest taxi stand. They finally reached Bombay at 6.20 AM. Meanwhile back in Ahmadabad I was still dead as a rock cause I was busy fixing up my PC till 2 AM in the night. Then a call at 8AM on my cell woke me up. It was my mom – She called me up to inform that my sis’s flight was late and they would be taking off at 9AM. For crying out loud, that was no reason to call. She could have called if the flight was early… hehe
The delay was due to fog. Ironically my Jiju told me that Kingfisher’s catch line at Bombay airport was “Kingfisher flights are always on time, Even in Fog“. So much for the punch line (My jiju later reported this on his customer response card). The flight again got delayed and finally took off at 11AM and landed at 12 noon in Ahmadabad.
I was there to pick ‘em up but unfortunately my eyes did not see any mini-skirt clad kingfisher airhostess. Ah well, I hope to see them again some other time. I resisted my urge to ask the couple their experience in the flight, but only till they got in my car. They I just blurted out “So how was the Kingfisher Experience?”.
Jiju (fearing that my sis will beat the crap out of him) said: “It was good”
“Just good?”
“Well it was fine.” (Then he noticed my sister staring at him) “The facilities provided were better than other airlines”.
(I’m sure he meant the airhostesses – but I’d rather not push it too far. Maybe some other time.)
Then I had to ask my sister and her reply was: “The TV only aired 5 channels”
(Well they at least had TV unlike other domestic flights – but then again, what less could you expect for a 6K air ticket that would cost only 3K on a regular flight)
End of conversation. I turned on the car stereo and drove on determined to ask Jiju about the entire experience when I could catch him alone.
Unfortunately the weekend passed on and I was not able to have a word with him alone. So I’ll never hear a first hand experience until I myself fly with kingfisher airlines someday. Today it was time for their departure and the flight was supposed to take off at 4.30PM. I was feeling drowsy following a full square meal and dropped dead at 4PM. So dad drove them off to the airport. At 5PM I was jolted awake by my sister’s shrill voice – on inquiring I found that the flight has been delayed and will take off at 7.30PM. So much for punctuality. Well here I am writing my entire episode while my dad is driving them off to the airport again.
Post Edit -
Finally they both reached Pune at 9PM. So I’m guessing the flight was not delayed too much.
