It’s the worst thing that could happen to an intern of NHLMMC – Clinical rotations in Shardaben Hospital (SCL). Having spent 2 horrid months during the start of my internship in Gynecology, in SCL, I knew that it wasn’t going to be a pleasant experience. And now just 4 days into the nightmare – I’ve started to become more irritated, I swear a lot and generally speaking have started to develop homicidal tendencies.. hehe…

The first day began with a late note (Well can’t help it, cause I’m up chatting with Tina till 2AM in the night). I reached hospital at 9.45 and the moment I entered the casualty room, Pat!! came a call from Dr. Gupta inquiring about the number of interns present in casualty. Fortunately the other intern posted with me (Shweta) was even late than me and so for the time being, I was spared of some obscure duty (I’m pretty sure that’s why the call was for)

Anyway after hanging up, the CMO (Casualty Medical Officer) told me that they probably wanted me to go for the school health program. And I was like No way 8O .

I’ve already wasted 1.5 months back in december and am regretting even day lost for study. The thought of going to schools once again (that too with my own transportation) was not very encouraging. I decided to trick my way through this situation. The CMO was kind enough to understand that I had to study for USMLE and so asked me to sit in a side room and study. So I basically studied on the first day. Second day – the same CMO and all studies, although I was again a bit late and had to face the wrath of RMO (Resident Medical Officer) who scolded me for being late and asked me to meet Dr. Shobha Desai (Who BTW is a real bitchy person and thinks that all interns are her personal property to mentally torture). I did not go to meet her and marched straight into the casualty dept.

I was informed that as a new rule recently brought into practice in SCL, all interns posted in casualty have to report to Dr. Shobha Desai’s OPD on Monday’s and Thursday’s – How convenient!!! Well anyway I was like neck deep with her toxicity and so decided not to attend her clinic on Thursday. And I didn’t, but actually the other intern (Shweta) did attend and so my absence was not noticed… So the battle will continue next Monday.

On thursday I met the new CMO was was kinda cool too (he allowed me study), but was very nosy and would peek into my textbook now and then and comment on the topic I was reading. That was so irritating. Just 2 more hours, I kept telling myself :D.

Today wasn’t good too, I was again called up by Gupta Ma’m and asked to go for school health program. I was prepared this time and made a very sincere face and told her that I have my USMLE exams on 29th January so needed time to study. Oh! and added a Please too :P

Well the trick worked like a charm and I was once again a free man, this time forever. So now looking forward to studying 3 hrs daily in hospital. Now I just have to figure out a way to get those staff nurses to shut their mouth. They sit right next to the room I study and will discuss everything from Ekta Kapoor serials to cooking recipes and I cant help overhearing them as there is no partition b/w the rooms.
