You come here with a dream, a goal, an ambition - of making it big. Striking the big moolah or die trying. Life is full of struggles and of all the things I’ve learnt in USA, the most important 4 rules I’ve learnt to abide and follow religiously are:

1) Always have a contingency plan. Foresighted as you may be, life comes up with unexpected twists and turns. So always have a plan B.

2) You’re on your own - There would be people out there who would help you but lets face it they wont help you till the end. There are exceptions but as a generalization - every man for himself.

3) Don’t expect miracles.

4) Communicate effectively and concisely.

My (ex) roommate, Dhara, left back to India for good yesterday. There were many underlying issues determining this decision but to iterate them is beyond the realm of my blog and I feel some skeletons are better left in the closet. Needless to say that the rest of us did our best to counsel her and I could only go as far as comforting her with the above rules and wish her good luck for the future. Somewhere down the lane, my medical education left me with the ability of being emotionally detatched and I fail to sympathize/empathize with many. My boon, My curse. The implications of her departure are far from emotional and outreach to the financial sphere as well but those are my battles and I will fight them one by one. Another one bites the dust.

The American Dream lives on…
