In a busy life of a resident, some things take predominance over the rest. Personal hygiene, unfortunately, took a back seat for me during the last weekend. I’ve not been writing for a while now because life’s been cruel (mostly busy though). Between my post where I shout with excitement for matching to present day – where I’m spending the nights in the hospital (yes – my first rotation is a night float), a lot has gone by. Briefly and in chronological order they are

  1. I wrote my Step 3 exam
  2. Gave one final performance in the Philly/Delaware region
  3. Went home to India (more details to follow – if I ever get the time)
  4. Met with Smiti’s parents and talked about potential engagement/marriage plans
  5. pass Step 3 (yay! Sorry, no videos this time. It was 2 AM Indian time when I got the results)
  6. Returned back to philly
  7. Packed up and left (hardest thing to do) for champaign, IL
  8. Champaign sucks!!!! – well its a nice place but coming from philly, this place is a dab. Nothing going on for most part of the summer.
  9. Attended orientation for residency, got my H1 visa approved and started residency… ooh and also bought a car (I now declare myself – transport independent)
  10. Started residency with night float.

Well back to the topic at hand. Last weekend, my landlady decided to do repairs in the house and things didn’t turn out very well. I was left with no water for 4 days. So it was off to gym to take a dump everyday in the morning followed by a shower (at the gym or at a friends place… in some cases, just skipped it). Didn’t have water for doing the dishes – so had to live off papa johns’s jalapeno pizza’s for most of the weekend (am not complaining though). You know you’ve reached a low point in life when at the end of your on call duty, you don’t feel like going home because there’s nothing to return to… Maybe its because you find your work as an intern very invigorating OR maybe because there’s no frigging water at your place. I chose to mention the former to my attending (for a nice pat on the back).. haha.

This morning, the plumber fixed the pipes and lo and behold… Now I can take a dump on my own toilet seat. Good stuff! My misadventures continue…

P.S. – will try to blog about my trip to India and things between. Thinking of changing the theme of the blog to “Peek in the life of an intern” – but HIPAA prevents me from being too open about it.
